Back to school comes with a package …

Back to school has become a trendsetter. It actually means, get ready armed with new, stationery, books, uniforms, shoes, school bag, pencil case, lunch bag/carrier and probably a couple of other things which I hav’nt been indulging in.   Probably more than my boys, I enjoy the whole thing about “Back to school”. Although it reminds me of how it used to be when we were kids and appreciated the new school bag which would actually live for that entire 10 months period or the shoes that we would so carefully polish for the first month or so.  But even without the memories, I completly enjoy the process of filling up the kids bags with goodies (as I call them)

And now that school has commenced in full swing, one of the jobs that keeps me busy for a good couple of hours in the night is and which incidently also reminds me of how my dad used to sit over the short weekend we had, ” back in those days” : covering/laminating books !

Strange how you can love playing with paper, scissor and glue and yet when you have to cover books which by the way is a very lame way to do books, can be so exhausting and back breaking. I know scores of parents all over the globe are involved in doing so but I wonder what they must feel, when I, atleast enjoy part of the process, being into alter art and all that.

Here’s a pic of some of the heaps of books being and having to be covered. Sitting on Eman’s desk in the study room.

A Mess on Eman's desk

In fact, I think this just gave me an idea, I think I should actually make a tutorial of how to cover books for all those first time moms and dads !!

Last Words of Nabi Kareem S.A.W (prophet Mohammed S.A.W)

Suddenly, there was a person, he said salaam.’May I come in?’ he asked.

But Fatimah did not allow him enter the room.

‘I’m sorry, my father is ill,’ said Fatimah, turned her body back and closed the door.

She went back to her father who had opened his eyes and  asked Fatimah, ‘Who was he, my daughter?’

‘I don’t know, my father. It was the first time for  me to see him,’ Fatimah said gently.

Then, Rasulullah looked at his daughter with trembled look,  as if he wanted to reminisce about every part of her  daughter’s face.    ‘Know one thing! He is who erases the temporary  pleasure; he is who separates the companionship in the  world.

He is the death angel,’ said Rasulullah .

Fatimah bore the bomb of her cry. The death angel came  toward him,

But Rasulullah asked why Jibril did not come  along with him.

Then, Jibril was called. Jibril was ready in the sky to  welcome the soul of Habibullah and the leader of the earth.

‘O Jibril, explain me about my rights in front of  ALLAH?’ Rasulullah asked with a weakest voice.

‘The doors of sky have opened, the angels are waiting  for your soul.’    ‘All jannats open widely waiting for you,’ Jibril  said.

But, in fact, all this did not make Rasulullah relieved,  his eyes were still full of worry..

‘You are not happy to hear this news?’ asked  Jibril.

‘Tell me about the destiny of my people in future?’

‘Don’t worry, O Rasul ALLAH. I heard ALLAH tell me:

‘I make jannat haram for every one, except the people of  Muhammad who are inside it,’ Jibril said.

It became closer and closer, the time for Malaekat Izrail  to do his work.

Slowly, Rasulullah’s soul was pulled. It was seemed  that the body of Rasulullah was full of sweat; the nerves of  his neck became tight.    ‘Jibril, how painful this sakaratul maut is!’

Rasulullah uttered a groan slowly. Fatimah closed her eyes,  Ali sat beside her bowed deeply and Jibril turned his face  back.

‘Am I repugnant to you that you turn your face back o  Jibril?’  Rasulullah asked the Deliverer of Wahy.

‘Who is the one who could see the Habibullah in his  condition of sakaratul maut,’ Jibril said.

Not for a while, Rasulullah uttered a groan because of  unbearable pain.    ‘O ALLAH, how great is this sakaratul maut. Give me all  these pains, don’t give it to my people.’

The body of Rasulullah became cold, his feet and chest did  not move anymore….

His lips vibrated as if he wanted to say something, Ali  took his ear close to Rasulullah.

‘Uushiikum bis shalati, wa maa malakat aimanuku – take  care of the saalat and take care the weak people among  you.’

Outside the room, there were cries shouted each other,  sahabah held each other. Fatimah closed her face with her  hands and, again,

Ali took his ear close to Rasulullah’s  mouth which became bluish.    ‘Ummatii, ummatii, ummatii?’ – ‘My people, my  people, my people.’    And the life of the noble man ended.

Could we love each other like him? Allahumma salle ‘ala  Muhammad wa baarik wa salim ‘alaihi. How deep is  Rasulullah’s love to us.       Send this to all your Muslim friends so that there is an  awareness towards the love of ALLAH and His Rasul – because  – truly – except this love, the other loves, are only fana  (not everlasting) thing.  Ameen……

Don’t worry if people hate you because there are many  others who love  and care you in the earth. But be worried if ALLAH hates  you because  there is no other who loves and cares you in akhirat.    May Almighty Allah guide all of us to the Right Path and  give all of  us the courage to accept the Truth in the light of  Qur’an and Sunnah  and to reject all things which are in contradiction to the  Holy Qur’an  and Sunnah.    (Ameen)

Back to school in Dubai 2010

One never knows what to expect but if we place our trust in the Almighty, then you know that you are in safe hands. 6 month back. we were totally uncertain of where we stood; no clue as to what was in store even remotely and yet, our belief and faith paid off. The kids started school this monday. It was a day of apprehension and anxiety.

Buddy and sawaabi were going to use the bus the first time in 8years. I was a bunch of nerves constantly reminding myself that they would be ok ! Its strange how I generally underestimate my boys ! Well, my main concern is how sawaabi loves to go back and forth even before he climbs onto the bus. He is one restless soul !

The morning started around 5:30 and atmosphere in the house was like that it had been hit by a hurricane …. We were rushing the kids thru the morning routine of brush, bath, dress, breakfast, shoes and bags. Although it seems simple but ask any parent and you know exactly what goes into that morning rush hour. So anyways, now we have Buddy and sawaab leaving at 6:30 followed by Eman leaving at 7:00 with Abba. And then, I have the entire 4 hours to hybernate !

Heres just a couple of pics of the morning :

PASTOR TERRY JONES

It is shocking and selfish how much harm can be done by one crazy religious man who is  irresponsible and using his status to ruin so many lives and the peace which is becoming so difficult to keep up in the world these days. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Does this man not realize how infuriated the common muslim man/woman would be, should his religious scriptures be burnt ?? Would it not be the reason for riots and endangering the scores and scores of americans outstationed all over the middleeast ??  I mean the bigger picture could get so ugly so easily with one mad mans actions !!!

The Quran shareef

I find it unbelievable how everytime, in any part of the world, anyone commits a crime, who maybe remotely muslim or even related to a muslim, or even lives in a muslim neighbourhood, the media splashs the news as “Islamists, or Islamic extremists, or Islamic radicals” doings !!!! I mean, just wake up !!

What is the matter with these people, why drag Islam into everything ?? If George Bush and his forces attacked into Afghanistan,  did the media report it as “christians attacking Afghanistan ?? No.  Then why judge an entire community, based on some accusations which have not even been proved as yet. Nobody has been able to prove that 9/11 was actually caused by whom, so many speculations and so many theories …. but then, they did try to wipe out an entire generation in Afghanistan on the basis of theories ….  how shameful !

When the Terry Jones story came out, I went thru the net world to see how the comman man in America felt about Islam and muslims, It really disappointed me that so many average americans felt so negative and wrote such nonsense and unbelievably  rude things about Islam and Our prophet Mohammed, PBUH.  It also goes to show that they have been kept away or given false information about our religion on that side of the Atlantic.  I dont blame them.  But I was disappointed when I read the comments to a post in washington post. It was really outrageous !!

Then I read a message from Dr Sabeel Ahmed from GainPeace.com and was so glad to read the contents.

You cannot force religion or beliefs on anyone. It comes from within. We all “need to” believe in a force greater than the world itself. We as muslims, already have that faith and we already know the “truth”.  Although it is our job to spread and educate our nation with the truth, Hidayath will come only from Allah himself.

Here is what Dr Sabeel had written thanking Pastor Terry Jones and their link :

Thank you Pastor Terry Jones for your service to Islam !

  1. Thanks for making Quran a bestseller. More copies Qurans and were sold on Amazon, local and online Islamic stores, thus providing humanity an opportunity to read and ponder over God’s guidance for humanity.

2. Thanks for the business. More people bought Islamic literature, along with the Quran, generating extra revenue for the Islamic stores.

 3. More individuals visited the mosques to attend Muslim open houses and Islam presentations, thus receiving the wonderful message of Islam.

 4. More individuals called on the GainPeace’s outreach hotline 800-662-ISLAM and inquired about the faith of Islam, giving Muslims an opportunity to explain Islam to our fellow citizens. You generated more publicity for Islam, then all our past outreach campaigns combined.

 5. More people Googled the words ‘Islam’ and ‘Quran’.The more that you spoke about Islam and the Quran, more people came to Muslim websites to learn about the truth of Islam.

 6. Libraries were busy loaning out copies of the Quran. Yes, libraries across the USA, Canada and Europe were busy lend out copies of the Quran to its patrons.

 7. Thanks for saving the Muslims advertisement dollars. The free publicity to the words ‘Quran’ and ‘Islam’, that you gave, Muslims could have spent millions of dollars but couldn’t have generated the same publicity and attention of the media, and thanks to you, the word of God (the Quran) became a household word.

 8. Thanks for waking up the Muslims. Muslim all across the world are now more passionate about the wonderful and peaceful faith of Islam and are eager to share it with their neighbors, colleagues, friends and humanity.

 9. Thanks for encouraging more people to embrace Islam. We had more people calling, learning and embracing Islam in the past few weeks, then we ever had since the last 40 years.

 10. Thanks for uniting the people of conscience, the Muslim, the Jews, the Christians, the Hindus, and the atheist, on the common platform of goodness, love and tolerance and against hatred, bias and bigotry.

Pastor Terry Jones, we pray that you actually read the Quran with an open mind and heart and ponder over its message of the oneness of God. If you love Jesus, follow the religion of Jesus, the religion of Jesus was Islam, submission to the The Creator. May God, enlighten you to the truth of Islam and that you start worshiping the One Creator as was preached and practiced by Prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, peace be upon them. Welcome to Islam.

Hadiths / Hadees

What a simple and generous religion but how brutally it has been disected and misrepresented by the media/press.

These are just a few of the many many hadiths that I wished to share with y’all. BTW, Hadiths are the sayings of Prophet Mohammed SWT,  narrated in quotations by the Sahabas (companions).

                                       *********************************************************************

Rasul Allah (pbuh) said: “Whoever has (the following) four characteristics will be a pure hypocrite: If he speaks, he tells a lie; if he gives a promise, he breaks it; if he makes a covenant he proves treacherous; and if he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil, insulting manner (unjust). And whoever has one of these characteristics, has one characteristic of a hypocrite unless he gives it up.” [Bukhari]

                                       *********************************************************************

“The (scribe) on the left hand raises his pen (i.e., delays writing) for six hours [this may refer to six hours of 60 minutes as measured by astronomers, or it may refer to short periods of time during the day or night – Lisaan al-Arab] before he records the sinful deed of a Muslim. If he regrets it and seeks Allaahs forgiveness, the deed is not recorded, otherwise it is recorded as one deed.”

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not harm his neighbor, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should entertain his guest generously, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet.” [Sahih Bukhari]

Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Keep yourselves away from non-mahram women.” One companion asked: “O Rasul Allah, tell me, can the husband’s brother mix freely with his sister-in-law.” Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) replied, “He is like death for a woman.” [Sahih Bukhari

One for the brothers 🙂 Narrated By Abu Huraira : Allah’s Apostle (pbuh) said, “Treat women nicely, for a women is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely.” (Bukhari)

*********************************************************************

The Prophet (peace be on him) said, “Three matters should not be delayed: salat when its time comes, burial when the funeral has arrived, and the marriage of a single woman when a man of equal status has proposed.” [Tirmidhi]

*********************************************************************

Narrated Abu Huraira(rh): The Messenger of Allah(Peace be upon him) said,” There are three(types of) people whom Allah will neither speak to on the Day of Resurrection nor will He purify them(i.e. from their sins), nor will he (even) look at them(with Mercy); and they will have painful chastisement. These are:1.An old ……man who commits fornication, 2. a king who is a great liar, and, 3. a poor man who is Proud

Lessons from 2010 ~ part 2.

Just a day before we had sam admitted for the operation. Twas Bilal's birthday.11 May 2010

Two days after Sam’s surgery, he was still in the ICU. I needed to stay close to him so I slept for a couple of hours in the common ladies waiting room in the night and kept waiting for the visiting hours the rest of the time. I had not visited the kids the first 5 days. There was a large, safe and clean cafeteria which was 24 hours so really almost all my immediate needs were taken care of.  Needlessto say, I hardly slept. I would be seen prowling constantly infront of the ICU, waiting for visiting hours to begin.

Most of the security guards and cleaners and nurses had come to know me very well by now. And one thing I was asked several times, is how I managed to keep so composed ! I remember, a distant friend of mine called once and tried to console me briefly; becoz she did not know all the details, she almost made me feel, “like its not the end of the world”.

It took a whole lot of patience and maturance to not snap back at her. Perhaps my state of mind and patience was already stretched beyond its capacity and here, I had someone telling me, that it could’nt be all the bad !! I must have been alittle sharp in my tone, although I said nothing offensive. This friend came all the way from Dubai to check up on Sam in the evening while I was in the cafeteria. By the time I returned, She had already seen  Sam.  She came over to me and just broke down in tears.   Human emotions are fragile. I learnt just how very fragile.  I found myself consoling her that evening !!

During those first 2 weeks, my telephone was flooded with calls. Calls from abroad, local calls, dozens of sms’s. At some stage, I almost felt like a telephone operator and at some other times, like telephone voice message. I nearly detested it having to answer the calls and repeat the same updates over and over !  Most of the calls that came from Sam’s friends had a similar feel to it.

It went something like this :

“How did this happen ?

” “Why did’nt he tell us ?”

“I found out thru so and so ”

“How did you’ll diagnose it ?”

“Why dont you get it done in India?”

“Let me know if you need anything ”

Duh !!! As if !!!!!!! I realized that we should be careful in what we say to a person when he going thru an ordeal especially one which involves health. He sits there feeling “how would you know, you dont have this problem” while we ask all the silly questions and even offer our unwanted advice !!

Nobody really knows whats going thru the mind of a person sinking in his boat except he himself !! so why pretend to have answers. But I suppose its a polite etiquette or ritual to do so !!!

Trying so hard to ease his pain... young sawaab

In all of Sam’s friends, there was only one guy whom he has disclosed his condition to, and also explained in detail about the operation.  Instead of making the effort of being around with us, he calls two days later wanting to know how things were !!! His wife had the audacity to state that 8 months back, when she was in India where her mother was sick, We didnt call on her in India, we just visited her hubby here !!! Thats friendship for you.

I learnt that encouragement, support and compassion does not necessarily come from those whom we know for sure will show it. Many a times, there can be a big disappointment. And many a times, it can come from a totally unexpected corner !! Therefore, its best to pin hopes only from Allah swt. He is the creator, he will create a way. . .

The lesser your expectation, the better chance you’ve got a solid relationship !! In all honesty, I dont believe in what I just said.     How can one not have expectations from someone you speak to virtually everyday ??? Someone whom you share your domestic secrets and office hassels ???

I realized now, that someone going thru trauma, doesnt need our silly superficial talks, he just needs genuine concern and someone who can listen and perhaps understand. Not judge. Never Judge !

I’ve learnt that Health, Wealth and children are a man’s biggest assets and they are also his biggest weakness too. He is most vulnerable when there is a deficiency in either his health or his wealth and if his children are away or hurt.

On the left is samie's surgeon, Dr Ziani and on the right is Dr ousama at Sheikh Khailifa Medical city.

I also learnt that what ever our sickness is, the two extreme way approach is not really the best.

Either we focus on the sickness so much that all our positive energy is drained and we’re completly touchy and depressed all the time.

On the other hand, completly living in denial and trying to carry on with life as though nothing has happened is not going to take us anywhere too.

When a disease strikes, it is a way of the body responding and telling us that something wrong is happening. why ignore and live in denial that alls well. We have to make positive changes to cure our problem.

Earlier I never stopped sam from the quantity he ate, or the amount of his salt intake, or from munching those                in-between snacks or hogging on all those nihari’s and ghee smothered parathas !! How much could our body take ?? Naturally we made changes. How could we not ??

I’ve also learnt that staying in a hospital, no matter how plush and sophisticated it is, can be quiet a sad and lonely experience. There’s a reason why Muslims have a sunnah, which is to visit the sick and that too it states, how and for how long should the visit last and what should be spoken off when visiting.

While we were transfered to the private room from the ICU, a bunch of volunteers had organized an hour program for the long staying patients of the hospital. They got out their guitars and sang lovely songs, some played board games and some card games. It was so refreshing to see the smiles on the elderly patients, who had, by now, gotten so used to staying over long periods of isolation !

A visit to the hospital can really make a great difference in the life of the patient and it makes us realize how fortunate we are for being blessed with good health too. we may feel, what good would a single short visit from us do for a patient, what we probably dont realize is how he/she may not have had seen family, friends or relatives for so long and a short talk with them may make them feel “wanted” or “not forgotten”  Try it, you’ll know what I mean.

This post was not supposed to get long, but perhaps I “Have” learnt quite a bit. I really hope, what I have learnt from my experience helps you to make even one single change in your life.
