R.I.P Rest in Peace.

RIP

What perplexes me, many a times, is how we Muslims tend to follow people rather than our Quran and Hadiths. Having a well known, well respected and well researched scholar to “lean on” for direction and advise is a blessing. But living in this century, with all the immense amount of resources available to us, how can we still follow or be misguided by “PEOPLE” ~ How can we “mix and blend” our deen with other cultures ?? But nearly everywhere you turn to, its happening !

Have we become so insensitive and cold that we no more call someone to pay our respects and our condolenses when some one dies in their home ?  Do we resort to texting them ? In Islam, every Muslim is a brother to EVERY other Muslim, regardless of his color, nationality, wealth etc. And he has a duty to four things for his brother in deen, one of which is that he visits him when he is sick and attends his funeral (if possible). However, we have melted down so miserably that visiting or telephoning the said person who’s house has had some one deceased is out of the question. What tends to happen is a cookie cutter text message on the phone !! Are we so thick ? Have we come so harshly under the wrong influence that we have totally forgotten or rather, not even read our sunnahs ??

Being a part of several social groups on facebook is as much a curse as it is an advantage. There are but only a few advantages, however the curses strongly out weigh them. Let me explain one such predicament.

A sister, writes how her grandmother passed away the same day and asks for duas to be made for her maghfirat. Several ladies reply with an “Innallaha wa inna ilaihi rajioon” translates loosely as “From Allah we come and to Him, shall we return”. The reality is that this particular line is the essence of all humanity !! Nothing above, nothing below and nothing sideways will bring you closer to the truth than understanding this. But we were brainwashed by our parents into saying this line without ever really pondering over the reality behind it … until it became almost a reflex action.

What amazed, and shocked me is that the Adminstrator of this group writes ” Inna Nilla he…RIP “

I mean, its one thing not to call someone to console them and its another thing to write “”Innallaha wa inna ilaihi rajioon” on their comment status but its outright ridiculous that people don’t even have enough humanity to complete the sentence ~ never mind the typo error but whats further dangerous is that they actually join it with something absolutely unislamic like RIP. (short for REST IN PEACE )  A term used significantly by non muslims particularly Christians on their tombstones or gravestones.

Whats unacceptable is that since she is the administrator of the group, 340 more women in this group would eventually start following this line until it becomes a trend and then a norm. Astaghfirullah !! How shaitaan misleads us !!

Not one single woman, pointed it out to the sister !!!  Each one prefers to be a part of the flock ~ favorable to the leader ~ yet a traitor to the Supreme leader sitting on his mighty throne !

For me, very few things matter more than my Allah’s impression of me, my own conscience and my husbands opinion ! Hence it is not difficult to try a soft way to correct the sister from writing what she did with a ” sister, please don’t write part of the dua and complete it with RIP “.

This is a social group mainly for ladies in Dubai and mostly all of them are muslim women.  Human beings are vague. You can never know for sure what to expect from them. I can just imagine how fed up Allah swt must be of us yet he continues to love us and bless us with many more chances !!

I pray Allah swt blesses this sister and all the other sisters in this group and in several other similar groups, with hidayah. Ameen.

Change of appearance for passport !

stupid cartoon on muslims

Being a Muslim is difficult in our world today. That is, to say “IF” you are practicing Islam. However, if you wish to called a muslim and yet prefer to “blend in” with the chaff, then ofcourse, you will be forgiven and probably even ignored ! But following Islam, and holding steadfast to our deen can be a challenge. Perhaps it has always been a challenge for all muslim brothers and sisters, in every century but its even more now.

I suppose, having been bought up, “abroad” – I have yet to learn the art of toeing the lines ! Logic comes faster than compromise. Most frustrating is when one is told “its the rule” where the rule seems highly illogical and biased.

Hoping to travel in the near future, I realized my passport was short of unstamped pages. The outsourced company for passport support for the embassy/consulate asked me to renew my passport which still has a validity of another year !! Fair enough, all the paperwork was assembled and after spending hours in a queue, I am told, by the passport support company oops, the photograph in my passport, which is nearly 10 years old, has me posing without my hijaab, hence I need to now, procure an affidavit for “change of appearance” from another outsourced company which handles the visa of the consulate.

Naturally the location was far and ofcourse that also meant time as well as energy wasted and more money spent on the affidavit. Now, what had me really baffled is what the basic difference is between the said company issuing an affidavit without a single proof of my original identity !! Afterall, they too, were just taking my word for it along with my old passport copy ! So what was the reliability of this source ?? Just an easy avenue to make money and added punishment to the muslim women who decided to embrace the hijab !

2 hours later, I realized that the visa office was gradually growing in numbers of ladies in Hijaabs ~ to ascertain my assumption.

My question is :-
Does a man who decides to flaunt a beard, also need an affidavit of change of appearance ?
Does a man who turns totally bald also need an affidavit of change of appearance ?

Does a person who has had a part of his face burnt in an accident also need a change of appearance affidavit ? Probably not !
Do all celebrities who have huge nose and face jobs, also get asked for a change of appearance affidavit ? Probably not !

In other words ~ If your a muslim ~ rest assured, you are going to have atleast one or two different additional visits to the said offices as “harassment”.

I totally understand, the security issue involved for the change of appearance issue but I fail to understand, the source and strength of this affidavit. The counslate needs proof and where do they get that proof from ? From an adjacent department, within the premises !!! (had they been performing in the old fashioned manner from the same building in the old villa, they would have been just one room away ! )

Pure Harassment.
